A commercial service call identified the source of sewer gas odors affecting the customer's office. The adjacent vacant unit's plumbing fixtures had completely dry traps, allowing gases to enter through shared walls. The technician recommended smoke testing if odor issues persist to confirm the connection and identify any additional problem areas.

We checked the bathroom and plumbing upon arrival. We found no obvious issues. The customer told us the office next door has been vacant for over three years. They had the key to let us in. We checked the bathrooms and faucets and found that the traps for all of the fixtures were completely dry, allowing sewer gas back into the building. We have determined that this is most likely the issue. We are recommending smoke tests if further smell issues occur.
